High Five Friday
An activity to spark quick check-ins and conversations while offering a small reward.

Give one staff member a lanyard with a small gift card attached, then let staff hunt them down for a high five all day. Whoever finds them and gives them a high five takes over the lanyard, passing the surprise along.
Why try it
Spread a small reward through your building with energy and surprise, instead of handing it to one person quietly. Staff actively look for each other, which sparks quick check-ins and conversations between people who might not normally cross paths during the day.
Instructions
Set up the lanyard
Attach a $5-$10 gift card to a lanyard and give it to one staff member at the start of the day.
Explain the rules
Let staff know that whoever finds the person wearing the lanyard should give them a high five and take the lanyard.
Let it run
The lanyard keeps moving from person to person throughout the day as staff seek each other out for a high five.
Activity variations
Adapt to fit your school's vibe, budget, and setting.
Multiple lanyards
Send out two or three lanyards at once if you have a larger staff, so more people get pulled into the game at the same time.
Seasonal gift cards
Run the game quarterly and pair it with a seasonal gift card, like a cocoa shop in winter or an ice cream spot in spring.

Additional tips for running this resource.
Leader Tip #1
Pick a visible spot
Encourage staff to wear the lanyard somewhere easy to spot, like over a shirt or coat, so it stays in play.
Leader Tip #2
Set an end time
Decide ahead of time when the game ends so the last person wearing the lanyard knows to keep the gift card.
