Instructions
Pick an idea that fits your team
Browse the variations below and choose one that matches your team's energy, your available time, and the moment you're in. Some ideas work best as one-time surprises; others can become regular traditions.
Set it up
Gather what you need and decide how much lead time the idea requires. Most of these are low-prep.
Activity variations
Adapt to fit your school's vibe, budget, and setting.
Goodwill outfit challenge
Invite staff to pick out a fun, creative outfit from Goodwill or a similar thrift store and wear it on a designated day. For an added twist, have small teams pick outfits for each other.
Flash challenge fun
Announce random challenges for staff throughout the day: send a selfie with your team, find a hidden item, or answer a trivia question. Keep challenges spontaneous and reward participants with small prizes or coupons.
Best day ever
Go all out for one celebration day. Kick it off with a themed dress-up day or an invitation to wear sweats. Draw staff names over the intercom each hour, followed by a school-wide dance break. Add a snack cart and a scavenger hunt with prizes to keep the energy up all day.
Finish that song
Pick a well-known song and challenge staff to finish the lyrics on the spot. Record the moments and share the compilation. Or invite a staff member to sing over the intercom and have others call in their guesses.
Restroom makeover
Upgrade the staff restrooms with better soap, a few photos, and positive notes on the mirrors. Keep supplies stocked and refreshed. It's a small, thoughtful detail that signals you pay attention to the whole building.
Self-care bar
Set up a self-care station where staff can grab something small to recharge: calming strips, stickers, lip balm, tea bags, or chocolate. Pair it with the Staff Wellness Bingo resource to keep the momentum going.
Faculty meeting raffle
Give each staff member a raffle ticket when they arrive at a faculty meeting. During the meeting, recognize a few staff members and invite others to share a compliment about them. Both the giver and receiver earn an extra ticket. Close by drawing winners to spin a prize wheel.
Tub of grub
Ask staff to each bring in a snack item: cereal, pretzels, raisins, candy, or any non-perishable treat. Combine everything into a giant communal trail mix in the staff lounge for everyone to enjoy throughout the day.
Cereal box puzzle
Gather 5 to 10 cereal boxes, depending on the size of your staff. Cut the front of each box into puzzle pieces, mix them up, and give one piece to each staff member. At a staff meeting or throughout the day, have everyone work together to put their puzzle back together. The first group to finish wins a prize.
Fun fact Friday
Every Friday, share a fun fact about a staff member over the intercom before school, like who has taught for 10 years and loves cherry Pepsi. The first staff member to call in with the correct guess wins a prize.
Alphabet food day
Invite staff to bring in a food item that starts with the same letter as their first or last name. Provide name tags for them to fill out and place next to the food they brought, then encourage everyone to eat their way through the alphabet all day.
