Two Stars and a Wish
A structured peer feedback format where staff share two specific strengths and one growth suggestion.

A structured peer feedback format where staff share two specific strengths and one growth suggestion with a colleague or about a shared practice. It gives teams a consistent, low-pressure way to give and receive honest feedback.
Why try it
Two Stars and a Wish gives staff a simple structure for feedback conversations that might otherwise feel awkward or unclear. The format keeps responses concrete and balanced, making it easier to hear what's working and what could improve without the conversation going sideways. Use it after observations, during PLCs, or in coaching cycles to build a culture where feedback is a normal part of how your team grows together.

Instructions
Set the context
Let staff know what they'll be giving feedback on: a new initiative, a procedure, a recent PD session, or a school-wide practice. Give a quick overview of the format: two Stars (specific strengths) and one Wish (a hopeful suggestion for growth).
Give thinking time
Pass out the included printables and allow 3–5 minutes for staff to jot down their two Stars and one Wish before sharing.
Share feedback
Have staff share their Stars and Wish with their partner or small group. Encourage them to deliver Stars first, then the Wish. Remind staff that the Wish should be framed as a genuine hope for growth, not a critique.
Close the loop
Bring the group back together for a brief share-out. Ask what patterns came up across the room and note any themes that connect to school-wide goals.
Activity variations
Adapt to fit your school's vibe, budget, and setting.
Self-reflection version
Have staff apply the format to their own practice before a coaching conversation or goal-setting meeting. Two things going well, one thing to work on.
Team practice feedback
Use Two Stars and a Wish during a grade-level or department meeting to gather input on a shared practice or initiative. Staff respond to a common prompt and discuss patterns as a team.

Additional tips for running this resource.
Leader Tip #1
Model it first
Run through an example before staff pair up. Showing what a strong Star and a well-framed Wish sound like sets the standard and takes the guesswork out.
Leader Tip #2
Revisit the wish
Follow up in a later PLC or check-in to see whether anything shifted based on the feedback.
