Year of Thanks: Celebrate Staff All Year Long
A yearlong staff recognition system that spotlights a different department or grade level each month.

A yearlong staff recognition system that spotlights a different department or grade level each month. Each team fills out a printable spotlight poster, adds it to the display, and the whole staff gets to celebrate them with themed treats or activities. Includes ready-to-use spotlight poster templates and monthly celebration posters for both elementary and high school.
Why try it
Use this activity to spread recognition across the whole year so every person in your building gets a moment in the spotlight, including custodians, paraprofessionals, office staff, and cafeteria workers. Fun facts, hobbies, and favorites give staff conversation starters and a great way to learn more about each other.

Instructions
Assign a team to each month
Map each department or grade level to a month before the school year starts. Use the elementary or high school theme ideas included in this resource as a starting point, or build your own schedule to fit your building.
Send the spotlight template
A few days before the month begins, share the Teacher Spotlight template with that month's featured team, digitally or printed. Give them a few days to fill in their fun facts, favorites, and personal highlights.
Set up the display
Print the monthly theme poster and arrange the completed spotlight posters in your chosen display area. If a physical display won't work, a digital slideshow on a hallway screen or shared slide deck is a solid alternative.
Celebrate
Pick one day during the month to bring it together: themed snacks, a breakfast spread, or small treats for the whole staff. Use the occasion to share shout-outs or notes of appreciation that recognize the spotlighted team's contribution to the building.
Activity variations
Adapt to fit your school's vibe, budget, and setting.
Whole-staff reveal
Instead of posting spotlights quietly, kick off each month with a short reveal moment at a staff meeting. Give the featured team a round of applause and share one surprising fun fact from their posters.
Sunshine committee hand-off
Once the system is running, hand coordination off to a sunshine committee or small group of staff volunteers. Give them the templates and the monthly schedule and let them run it.

Additional tips for running this resource.
Leader Tip #1
Include everyone
Make sure your monthly rotation covers the full staff: custodians, cafeteria workers, office staff, and paraprofessionals alongside classroom teachers.
Leader Tip #2
Invite student involvement
Ask students to write thank-you notes or record short video messages for the spotlighted team. It adds a personal touch that goes a long way with staff.
