Expertise Exchange, Speed Round
A professional development activity where staff pair up to learn from each other.

A fast-paced professional development activity where staff pair up for three-minute conversations to share one small practice that's working for them. Instead of long presentations, teachers trade quick, realistic strategies they can try right away.
Why try it
Surface the strategies already working in your building and gives every teacher a turn to share and a turn to listen, so practical ideas move between classrooms instead of staying with one person.
Use it during a staff meeting, PD day, or PLC to build connection between staff who might not otherwise compare notes on what's working.

Instructions
Set up groups and materials
Set a timer, visible or audible, and grab the included note-catchers or sticky notes. Form groups of 3-4, or pairs if needed, and arrange the room so groups can rotate easily.
Share what works
Set the timer for three minutes per round. For the first two minutes, one person shares one small practice that's working for them right now, using a concrete example others could realistically try.
Ask clarifying questions
For the final minute, listeners ask quick clarifying questions to understand how the strategy works.
Rotate and repeat
Rotate roles so a new person shares next round. Continue until everyone in the group has had a turn, using the included note-catcher to record one idea worth trying.
Activity variations
Adapt to fit your school's vibe, budget, and setting.
Themed rounds
Focus each round on one topic, such as morning routines, classroom management, or relationship-building moves with students.
Cross-grade groups
Group staff across grade levels or departments so ideas cross over between teams that don't usually collaborate.

Additional tips for running this resource.
Leader Tip #1
Model first
Start by sharing one small practice that works for you. It sets the tone and shows the kind of example that fits.
Leader Tip #2
Keep time visible
A clear, visible timer keeps rounds moving and protects the pace of the activity.
Leader Tip #3
Close with reflection
End with a quick round where everyone names one idea they're taking with them.
